Question: Describe a festive celebration you had experienced
Last few months, all the Muslims in Malaysia were celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri including me and my family. On the first day of Syawal, I woke up early. Although last night I was busy helping my family and relatives on the preparation of Hari Raya and ended up sleeping late, I managed to wake up on time. At that time, my family already woke up. I have to take a turn to use the bathroom as in my village, we only got three bathrooms and must be shared by 7 big families. After a long wait, I finally got to use the bathroom. After having 10 minutes shower – my cousins get irritated with me because of this; I proceed to do the dawn prayer. I go to the window to check out the breathtaking view. Outside, the village was bathed in the reddish glow of sunrise. I take a deep breath and enjoyed the fresh air.
I wore my new baju kurung that I recently bought. It was blue in color and I like it very much. After that, my family I and completed our solat sunat Raya. The males did it at the mosque while the females at the house. Then, we eat breakfast with the famous Malay tradition food. The dining table was full of food such as rendang, ketupat, kuah kacang, lemang and much more. I eat a lot as there was no tomorrow. I was very full and I takes about 10 minutes to settle down. Then, my family and I took a lot of pictures as my family loves to pose and for coincidence, my big brother recently bought a new Fujifilm camera from the overseas. We take hundreds of selfies and pictures with different poses, different places and different expressions of face.
About noon, my family and I went visiting my relatives around Malacca. I met with my cousins that I only met once in a year. I got very excited as they were very friendly and did not make our conversation felt awkward. We talked and laughed together. They served us with more food that I cannot refuse. The best part was when my uncle and aunt give me and my brothers Raya money. But I gain less money compared to last year. Nevermind, I am grateful that I still got more than RM100 every year.
At evening, it is my family turn to stay in the house and welcomed the visitors. We received a lot of visitors that came from our own relatives. We were having a long chat. As the lady in the house, I treat them to eat and cleaned up the dishes. I also met a few relatives that I never met before. Some of them were the same old with me who will face the SPM this year. I will take them to my nearest competitors besides my friends.
At night, my big family and I visited our grandmother relatives. We managed to visit Tok Ali and Tok Dol's enormous houses. They served us mee bandung, soto, fried mihun and a lot more food. The adults chat variety kind of topics such as their children and politics. Kids like me and my cousins eat, letting off firecrackers and fireworks, watched television and laughed a lot. Back to our house, my families slept late, chatting with each other while I was busy counting my Raya money.
In cut of the stories, Hari Raya Aidilfitri was a great event where everyone forgave and forgot the mistakes and hatred. Everyone became happy on this day. The first day of this festival for every year will remain as an unforgettable memory for me and my family.
